1. What is Elimu Pepe?

This is a product by Safaricom, and LoHo Learning that digitizes core educational content to support learning in Kenya schools, and avail it through digital channels such as tablets, laptops, desktops, and mobile phones.

2. What are the benefits of Elimu Pepe?

• Affordability and accessibility.
• Access to a wide range of educational resources.
• Personalized learning experiences, and opportunities for interactive and collaborative learning.
• Elimu Pepe will avail learning content i.e. textbooks and reference materials at an affordable cost making it accessible to learners from poorer backgrounds.
• Assessments - CBC does not currently rank students and thus a vague way to evaluate and assess their progress. With Elimu Pepe, learners have access to quizzes at the end of each section that offer real time feedback on their performance.
• Sustainability – printing of books is expensive and un-sustainable. With Elimu Pepe, parents will incur a one-time cost for a tablet that will last over 4 years, thus saving on textbook costs.

3. How can I get started on Elimu Pepe for my school?

To get started on Elimu Pepe, please reach out to LoHo Learning on: masomodigital@loholearning.co.ke or the Toll Free number: 800722266 with your request or visit the nearest Safaricom Retail Shop and place an order, complete your payment and the order for tablets will be delivered to your school.

4. How does Elimu Pepe work?

Elimu Pepe will involve the use of digital devices i.e. tablets to deliver instructional interactive LoHO learning content, assessments, and activities to learners.

5. What are the costs of Elimu Pepe components?

• Currently we are equipping schools and learners with tablets:
• SIMI Tab 8 which costs 10999/; insurance at premiums 200/- p.a.
• annual content subscription of 2000/- p.a.
• educational data bundle of 500/- per month or other educational data bundles available i.e. daily/weekly bundles for the B2C customers.
• Note: The SIMI Tab8 is available subject to availability of stocks, other tablets are also available, and costs will be shared on request.

6. Who is the target audience for Elimu Pepe?

Learners of all ages, from primary school through higher education and beyond; teachers.

7. As a parent, can I acquire Elimu Pepe products for use at home?

Yes. Tablets are available from all Safaricom retail shops. Once the parent/guardian confirms they are buying the tablet for Elimu Pepe, they will be guided on how to access Elimu Pepe

8. Is Elimu Pepe accessible to learners with disabilities?

No, not at the moment. Specific learning products for the differently abled learners to be availed soon.

9. How can parents monitor their children’s progress with Elimu Pepe?

Parents can access dashboards or parent portals provided by Elimu Pepe platforms to monitor their child's progress, view grades and assignments, communicate with teachers, and track learning milestones.

10. Is Elimu Pepe secure and privacy compliant?

Yes. All devices will be secured by Mobile Device Management (MDM) in line with Data Privacy and Security Regulations.

11. Are there protection features on the application – for children?

YES. We will incorporate a Mobile Device Management (MDM) feature that will ensure learners only access learning content and all other harmful websites inaccessible.

12. How does Elimu Pepe ensure security and privacy of student data?

Through the Mobile Device Management (MDM) feature; learner content access is also guided by the teachers during the lessons.

13. Do the devices have a tracker?

YES. Devices come with an IMEI number that can be used to track and trace devices. Institutions/schools can also add an additional device tracker in their devices.

14. What course content does the platform have?

Both CBC and 8-4-4 curriculum textbooks.

15. How often is the content updated?

Content will continually be updated in real time as curriculum changes are received.

16. Will I be able to access IGCSE content?

Not at the moment.

17. What books does it have?

All 8-4-4 and CBC content that is accredited by KICD that covers from playgroup to Grade 9.

18. Can I download and print a book?

No, you cannot print a book but can download on the platform and read offline.

19. If I download a book on one device, can I access it offline on a different device?

No. Only if the other device has subscribed to LoHo Learning content.

20. Is there an online version of the content in the device?

YES. Learners will have access to live-streamed content as instructed/directed by teachers from the prescribed sites.

21. How many student profiles can one device support?

1:1

22. What are the differences in terms of services offered on the various packages offered by Elimu Pepe?

• B2B Standard Content: content subscription is Ksh 2000 p.a.; Data(10gb) Ksh 500 p.m.; insurance ksh 200 p.a. and the device cost (prices will vary depending on the tablet available)-Schools
• B2C Starter Package Content: Ksh 500; Data (10GB): Ksh.500; Insurance: sh. 200p.a. Total: Ksh. 1,200-Individual parents
• Note: where parents will either have their own devices, they will subscribe to data only; and in the case where parents want to buy the device, the devices prices will range depending on the available tablets.

23. Do you offer refunds if I choose to opt out before my subscription?

No. You can seek refund before consumption of Data.

24. What kind of training is available for teachers who are using Elimu Pepe for the first time?

LoHo is currently offering teachers from the interested school capacity building to equip them with knowledge of the Elimu Pepe.

25. Where can I purchase the device?

Currently, at any Safaricom Retail Shop countrywide. You will make payment for the device and allow LoHo to update content required. Schools will be notified to collect the devices/Delivery can be organized at the customer’s cost.

26. Is there a lipa Mdogo Mdogo? How do I register for it?

NO. Lipa Mdogo Mdogo option that Safaricom offers does not cover Elimu Pepe Devices such as tablets.

27. If I stay away from Nairobi, how long will my device take to be delivered?

Devices will be collected from the nearest Safaricom Retail Shop or LoHo distributor closest to your location. Delivery can also be organized at your cost.
